Sample Lesson Plans for Phase Two Pre Set Test Subjects for the ADI part three Examination of your ability to teach.
How to Use:
Its is always good to have a structured approach to teaching. The Sample lesson plans included in this booklet will guide you into a good structure. This structure is not set in stone, be prepared to vary your techniques as needed to cover different situations, also for the needs of the learner/examiner.
These lesson plans can also be used to teach your learners, however not all subjects are covered so be prepared to use the techniques used in these and adapt a lesson plan for these. I have included a spare for you to complete along with lesson plan to help you.
Lesson plan explained
PST: - This is short for Pre Set Test, of which there are 10. Within these tests a number of the subjects are repeated unlike on phase one See below
PST 1 Cross roads
PST 2 & 8 Meet / cross / overtake / clearance & anticipation
PST 3 Junctions left / right
PST 4 T – junctions emerging
PST 5 & 10 Progress / hesitancy & position
PST 6 Reverse parking
PST 7 & 9 Pedestrian crossings / use of signals
PST 8 & 2 Meet / cross / overtake / clearance & anticipation
PST 9 & 7 Pedestrian crossings / use of signals
PST 10 & 5 Progress / hesitancy & position & anticipation
Introduction:
This is where you should introduce yourself to the examiner or the learner. With your current learners continue to build a rapport, friendly, outgoing, easy and relaxed, but professional relationship. Ensure that you address the examiner or the learner correctly. For example if thee name is William Jones they may want to be called Bill. Do not assume this ask!
Subject:
Briefly mention the subject that you will be covering in today’s lesson. This is not an objective as the objective with your learners may change as you ask the recap questions
Recap:
The key to recap questions is to ask the first question and listen to the answer and then use the art of communication. Listen carefully to the answers given before asking the next question. Below are some suggestions for phase 2 questions, these are not in any particular order. Keep to about 2 minutes SO do not ask all of these also do not read them, adapt and learn them!
If you don’t get time to ask all of these on the recap continue with them on the move. "What if" is a good question to use on the move example: - What if a door opens on that red car ahead? What if a child steps out between the parked cars could we stop in time?
If you don’t get time to ask all of these on the recap continue with them on the move. (Q & A)

How is clearance related to your speed?
Overtake
Where would it not be safe to overtake a moving vehicle?
What would you need to check prior to moving back to the left after overtaking?
Why?
Anticipation
How can you anticipate the actions of approaching drivers?

Approaching Junctions to turn left or rightRecap:
Some questions that could be used, remember not to ask to many!
What routine would you use on approach to a junction for turning left or right from a major road in to a minor road?
What will you look for before turning into a junction?
Where would you position the car prior to turning left/right turn at a junction?
If the road was narrow, or a parked car was close to the junction on the right hand side of the road what difference would this make to the position that you would choose to turn right?
If you see pedestrians crossing the road you are about to turn into. What would you do?
Objective:
By the end of today’s lesson we will be able to deal with emerging from T - junctions turning from a major road into a minor road, left and right, identifying your problems within these areas and giving you remedial action to cure these faults.
